Dear Subscriber:

Astronomers claim the “Dog Days of Summer” occur between July 3 and August 11; we all understand it is hot. Rather than determined by the tilt of the earth, this period is defined by the position of Sirius “the dog star.”  It seems as though the dog days of this summer have been worse than other years, impacted all parts of this country and have been like the economy – not much fun to talk about.

When this weather breaks, we will be only a few weeks from the 4th annual PlantSuccess, the theme: Best Practices driving Plant Performance and presentations by innovative managers from leaders in the process industry that will be refreshing and stimulating. Join us for PlantSuccess 2002, 9-10 October at the Philadelphia Airport Marriott.

Join keynoter Hermann Ortega, Air Products’ VP of engineering and manufacturing, for his presentation – Productivity: A Model For Success and another roster of outstanding speakers, including:

To this group, add Joe Morray, President Trinity Technologies Corp, who will lead a panel composed from our leading sponsors, on the critically important topic: Web-Based Technology: What's the Skinny on Thin Client?

On Tuesday, 8 October, workshops by Greg Howell and Jim Alampi – both sought after as consultants and speakers -- will be conducted in conjunction with PlantSuccess 2002. This is a great opportunity; don’t miss it. Visit www.PlantSuccess.com for details and to register.

On Tuesday, 8 October, Greg Howell, co-founder and managing director of The Center for Innovation in Project and Production Management (CFI) is collaborating with PlantSuccess and conducting a workshop in his area of specialty – Project Management; the topic – The Theory of Project Management: Is It Obsolete?

Howell’s Thesis: Typical project management practices do not assure success. They fail to deliver elements important to the customer – projects take too long, cost too much and kill too many. Lean practices work better because they rest on different mental models. The new lean theories explain where current practices are deficient and provide the basis for significant improvement.

This workshop will explore the new lean theories and show how they can be applied. Through a combination of case studies, lecture, simulation and discussion, participants will learn the Five Keys to Project Success and actions to take immediately to achieve better project management.

Registration fee is $195. Register Now. Discounts for multiple attendees from the same company are available, for information, please call PlantSuccess at 770-565-3282.

“For this year's CIO-100 honorees, integration is no longer a choice -- it's an obligation. And that means far more than merely connecting systems. It means marrying IT strategy to business goals. Not an easy task, but once achieved, the payoff is huge.” READ MORE.

“There is no shortage of technologies out there today promising to help us collaborate virtually. One organization that follows the industry is currently tracking more than 1,000 tools and services that claim to have collaboration functionality. They range from videoconferences and webcasts to virtual classrooms and online design review tools.”

Accenture consultants Reinhard Ziegler and Craig Mindrum have written a comprehensive article addressing many of the issues of virtual collaboration. READ MORE.
