Dear Subscriber:

The recent regional PlantSuccess conference at the Hilton Houston NASA Clear Lake drew the largest audience for this intensive series. We were not surprised; thanks to all who participated.

Terry Leigh, Global Maintenance Resource Center Leader, Dow Chemical, set the stage with a great presentation: Business Drivers for Reliability Centered Maintenance in a Global Environment. He was followed by voices of experience and success with applications ranging from document and data management by Deborah Deats of BP, to a system for substantially improved plant turnarounds by Larry Faucheux of Vulcan Chemicals and Steve Campbell of CDI Engineering Group, to a report on a portion of FIATECH’s LCDM project by Deb McNeil of Dow Chemical, to Bruce Pollard of Lyondell Chemicals describing and demonstrating technologies that will be common in future plants and Harry Leith of ExxonMobil lending his excellent presentation skills to helping all of us understand that we can do something to improve plant security.

In a short period of time, PlantSuccess has built an important reputation for outstanding presentations. The Houston speakers met all expectations and contributed to lively discussions as well. The presentations can be downloaded at http://www.plantsuccess.com/

The final conference in this series is June 5th, co-located with A/E/C SYSTEMS 2002 at the Anaheim (Calif) Convention Center. We have another excellent roster of speakers and hope all of our readers in southern California will be able to join us there.

·         Moving an Emerging Market into the Mainstream

The Executive Viewpoint from an important and comprehensive study by the Aberdeen Group regarding the implication of a slowdown in IT growth:

“Suppliers no longer can rely on users indiscriminately purchasing every new hot technology that hits the market. This fact is particularly sobering for suppliers in emerging markets, where widespread adoption of an entire product category still hangs in the balance.”

And the claim: Market validation, rather than competitive positioning, is the primary concern for suppliers in emerging sectors.

In our view, the successful user – YOU – is the driver in today’s IT market. READ MORE
