Dear Subscriber:
The second in a series of
regional PlantSuccess conferences will be held 11 April at the Chicago Northwest
Hotel. Five presentations address the successful use of IT to improve asset
management, reliability, production, security and operating
excellence.
Keynoter Vlad Djuric,
senior reliability engineer for Dofasco
Inc, will present case studies of reliability-centered maintenance
resulting in the savings millions of dollars in a very challenging industry –
steel. Dave Belonger, staff consultant to the AIChE’s Center for Chemical Process Safety
(CCPS) will repeat his popular and informative presentation from the
Philadelphia conference – “Managing Security: A New Requirement.” Dave
also will incorporate insight gained from recent presentations on this project
to the American Chemistry Council (ACC) and the AIChE’s recent spring
conference.
Other discussions will be
led by Dale Jarvi, manager of mechanical engineering & information
systems for Marathon
Engineers/Architects/Planners LLC, a Jaakko Poyry company and leader in
rebuilding paper machines and by Wayne Staats, CEO, Information Solutions, LLC and a
call-to-arms for successful technology implementations.
Charlie Gillard,
principal with C.F. Gillard
Associates Inc and advisor to Verticore Technologies, Inc
will share 35 years in a variety of operations, engineering, and IT
positions, and a career that culminated as Vice President Continuous
Productivity Improvement and CIO at Shell Deer Park Refining
Company.
Charlie’s thesis: “Moving
from average operating performance in a plant to pacesetter performance improves
economic performance of an average plant by US$15 to 25 million through lower
variable costs, fixed costs, improved reliability and increased capacity
utilization.”

Sid
Snitkin, VP of ARC Advisory Group
has written an interesting piece on the impact of manufacturing on supply chain
performance. Among his conclusions, “Include supply chain, IT, automation, manufacturing
engineering, and factory operating personnel in your analysis of manufacturing
improvements. Each of these groups is a stake holder in achieving optimal
manufacturing performance.” READ
