PlantSuccess Newsletter
Volume I, Issue 12
9/26/01
Dear Subscriber:
I have been in this hi-tech,
software and services business for 30+ years and have learned a thing or
two about building a business. I put little of that experience into the
planning of the PlantSuccess Newsletter, but a lot of it into the execution
phase. As a result, we have accomplished our objective: to get information
-- on a frequent basis -- regarding the unique PlantSuccess conference, in
front of people who may benefit by it. And, to seek articles, research papers,
speeches, reports, book reviews, websites and to share this information for use
by subscribers on a regular basis. From many reports, we seem to have made at
least a small difference here.
The distribution list began
with an e-mail list I had built over a few years and has grown by contributions
from a wide range of sources and many direct requests every week. Our
circulation spans the globe and we receive positive comments from a variety of
sources.
I wrote a monthly newsletter,
in the paper world, for several years. This is very different, more fun and,
every once in a while requires a break of more than a few days. I will take a
break for a couple of weeks after PlantSuccess and look forward to continuing
the effort.
Despite the terrorist
attacks which are still strong in our memories and have impacted all of us, we
have lots of people who have committed substantial time and energy to contribute
to PlantSuccess 2001 and help all of us get back to work.
PlantSuccess is a unique
combination of innovative managers from leading process manufacturers sharing
their company’s business drivers and successful implementation of current
information technologies. Moderators, who get the most out of the experience
and expertise in the audience, lead presentations.
Outstanding speakers,
panelists, moderators, members of the press, analysts and others in the
audience will come from:

I was drawn to the title of
this article in the current Financial Times (just FT in the western world). It
is important to know what the influential forces in countries and companies,
friends and foe, say and write about us. Most react as expected, some quite
differently. The response from the UK generally recognizes the US for what it
is – their strongest and most important ally. This article is a good read.
There is no end to the
stories on the need for changes in security, disaster recovery, privacy, etc,
and the ARC Advisory Group, a venerable Boston-based consultancy, is no
exception. However, it’s also critical that we focus on what it is that were
trying to protect – the ability of our economy to produce. Read this article: World
of Manufacturing Changes in Wake of Tragedy.
I saw this story last week,
near the end of last weeks’ assault on the stock market, and knew I wanted to
use it this week. US process manufacturers have invested heavily in SAP
technology and need a healthy company to provide support and enhancements. The
software industry needs several strong leaders, SAP will be one of them, The
company’s report on the past and reference to the future (even after the
attack) is good news:
” Customer and prospect
activity through early September was in line with company expectations, with
businesses continuing to move forward on purchases and implementations of SAP's
software solutions. While the impact on business conditions for the fourth
quarter 2001 from last week's attacks is more difficult to assess, the Company
as yet sees no reason for changing its earlier guidance for the full year
2001.”
